NEW Health and NEW Health University wrapped up its first-ever Bridging the Gap cohort #1 workforce development program—offering local residents the opportunity to explore different careers right here in our rural communities.
The 12-week, paid, program provided hands-on experience in roles like Dental Sterilization Tech, IT Helpdesk Intern, Care Coordinator, and Pharmacy Assistant. These roles included clinical and non-clinical positions as well as shadowing opportunities. As a part of the Bridging the Gap program, participants received job readiness training that included resume writing, cover letter preparation and mock interviews.
What sets Bridging the Gap apart?
It’s local. NEW Health employees, who are also community members, shared their skills to give Bridging the Gap participants real-world mentoring and a community-focused experience, all close to home. At the program’s completion, participants earned a NEW Health University completion certificate, obtained new skills, and participated in mock interviews that provided an experience of a real interview without the stress and immediate feedback. Bridging the Gap provided participants with an opportunity to explore careers for both a first-time employee and those seeking a career change. This program is unique in blending education and training with onsite real-world settings locally.
“I think it’s important to have workforce training programs in rural areas because many young people either choose not to go to college to help their families or simply can’t afford to go. Programs like this make it possible for them to stay in their communities while getting the training they need for a good career.” – Crystal, Bridging the Gap: Cohort 1 Care Coordinator track.

NEW Health continues to seek ways to invest in the next generation of healthcare workers right here at home.
