According to a recent press release, “NEW Health is proud to announce the expansion of its mobile clinic outreach services. NEW Health is now leading the charge in school-based dental programs to increase dental education and access to care” for students in Ferry, Pend Oreille and Stevens Counties. The Mobile Clinic will visit several schools in the Tri-County area before the end of the current school year.

NEW Health has received funding from Better Health Together and National Association of Community Health Centers to provide students with exams, x-rays, preventative services such as sealants, and dental education to students in Kindergarten thru the 12th grade.

Clint Hagen, Chief Operations Officer of NEW Health, says that they were “inspired to launch the service to address time and travel barriers for patients in our service area. A student traveling to a clinic for care can impact the student’s learning time and the parent’s ability to work. The main focus of the program is dental care by providing exams and x-rays. NEW Health’s goal is to continue this program into the 2025/2026 school year and (to) also add teeth cleaning services.” Dental education for the students is also “important and integrated into the care experience.” Parents of students who receive an exam may schedule follow-up visits for additional dental work either through the Mobile Clinic or at any of the Tri-County dental clinics in Colville, Springdale, Newport or Lake Spokane.

Currently there are nine mobile clinic visits scheduled before the end of the 2024/2025 school year. The next visit is this Thursday, March 20th, at Kettle Falls Elementary School. The goal is to provide exams to between fifteen and twenty students at each Mobile Clinic location.

“CEO Desiree Sweeney highlighted, “NEW Health’s mobile unit will expand the reach of both medical and dental at a time when people need us the most.”

Parents who wish to schedule appointments should contact their student’s school nurse or call NEW Health directly at (509) 395-6004.
